When you look at a piece of clothing, do you ever stop to think how it got in your possession? Most of the clothing sold here in the United States are manufactured overseas in the poor areas of places. It is so popular to have products manufactured overseas because it is less expensive and allows mass production. Although this is beneficial for us, it’s not so beneficial for those working conditions. They receive low income, low working hours, and unsteady employment. Most factory workers overseas also do not receive benefits like health care. Considering these awful working conditions, that are in the process of being improved.

Columbia Sportswear Company products are made overseas in Vietnam. Vietnam does not have the best working conditions when it comes to manufacturing clothes. One of their biggest problems is violating the leave that workers are able to get. They however are working to improve these conditions. They do not have health care benefits, but that is one of the things that they are working to improve.

Under Armor makes some of its products in Vietnam as well. They regularly violate the regulation of working overtime hours. The employees often are overworked and underpaid. They have been more committed to economic reform and have been trying to fix their labour standards.

Under armor also manufactures clothes in Indonesia. Indonesia does not have great working conditions. They have a very low minimum wage and the workers are not treated fairly. The health and safety of the workers is often put at risk in these factories. Female workers in Indonesia also have to face many difficulties in the factories such as receiving lower tax cuts.

Under Armor has clothing also manufactured in Malaysia. Malaysian clothings factories has a very poor reputation for abusing their workers. These workers are severely underpaid and also charged recruitment fees in order to secure their spot in the work force. This allows for the employer to make money from their workers. These workers have to work longer than they have too.

Another country that Under Armor makes clothing in is Nicaragua. They have been working to improve the conditions over the last 8 years. They have been making progress in labour laws and wages. They have made strides in helping lift the well-being of workers and their families. This has lead to work being done in Nicaragua become more competitive.

Toms manufactures shoes in Kenya, India, Ethiopia, and Haiti. Haiti does not work in safe or sanitary working conditions as well as most workers are not paid what they are legally owed. In India, Women and children are paid as little as fifteen cents an hour. The labour forces wages are also regularly decreased. In Ethiopia, workers on average are the lowest paid workers in the world. They are normally paid 26 dollars per month which is not enough to cover their basic needs. Kenya is the only country that is paid a fair salary between the four countries.

All in all, countries all across the world treat their workers differently. Most third world countries do not pay their workers a fair salary. They also let them work in very unsanitary conditions. These are often not safe for the workers. However, many countries are trying to improve their labour laws, and make sure the workers have a clean, safe and healthy work environment. Women and children are often being underpaid, and can barely live off of their salaries. Overall, these working conditions need to be improved.
